Dear friends,

Bašta Fest, like other festivals, is facing a difficult period of planning and organizing events during the pandemic, as well as the unclear future regarding the measures implemented because of the spread of the virus. This makes it very difficult, if not impossible, for us to have any real strategy and plan.
With the current information that virus is here to stay for a while, we believe it is necessary to find ways for cultural life to continue, just like it will in other areas. Cultural workers will have to explore different options in order to do their jobs, and figure out how their audiences can get access to the content.

This pandemic affects every individual living in areas hit by the virus, and just like we as individuals are adapting to it, we believe that festivals and culture as a whole must do the same. The core idea of Bašta Fest is to bring independent films made by young authors to an area in Serbia that doesn’t have a regular cinema program. So, the most important thing for us is to show our film program at the „Borići“ open air to local audience, while respecting all the measures and recommendations – in order for our visitors to have the best possible and safe film experience.

We are also of the opinion that organizing musical program and parties in current situation would be irresponsible, as it would be impossible to respect the measures and ensure the safety of our visitors. With full awareness that this is a part of our festival that our visitors are very fond of, we have still made the decision to cancel it for 2020. When the time is right, and we are able to dance, sing and hug without worrying about consequences – Bašta Party will be the place where we will celebrate this.

The final decision if the festival will still be held on July 23-26th, as we’ve announced earlier, will be made in the next couple of days, when we receive the final answer from our local Crisis HQ in Bajina Bašta. Take care and stay well!
