The International Short Fiction Film Festival Bašta Fest will be held this year in Bajina Bašta under the slogan “Knock on Wood”, bringing local audiences premieres of numerous domestic and international productions. A total of 26 short films will be screened in Borići Park, and this year’s festival program will be officially opened by actor Ognjen Mićović, who will welcome audiences to the festival’s cinematic gatherings.

Mićović has appeared in a number of television roles, and last year was marked by his portrayal of Luka Baša in the acclaimed series The Fortress. He also delivered a notable film performance in Dragan Bjelogrlić’s Guardians of the Formula: Chain Reaction. By inviting him to open this year’s Bašta Fest, the festival continues its tradition of entrusting this honorary role to a young actor or actress whose talent has distinguished the previous year.

“Bašta Fest, as a young festival, has patiently, carefully, and thoughtfully built, refined, and developed its artistic taste when it comes to film selection. For years now, it has stood as a high-quality point of reference for film enthusiasts across the region,” said Mićović, who first attended the festival in 2022. Two years later, the film Bull’s Eye by Petar Lakić, in which Mićović played one of the leading roles, was screened as part of the festival’s main competition program.

“I love the films showcased at Bašta Fest, and I remember many of them very well. Bašta Fest is a true source of encouragement for young filmmakers, and that is what I value most about it. I am thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to open the festival this year.”

As part of the main program, audiences will have the opportunity to watch short films from as many as twenty-four countries under the open sky. Three of the selected films will have their world premieres at Bašta Fest, while nineteen titles will be screened in Serbia for the very first time, right here in Bajina Bašta.

All short films in competition will be eligible for awards presented by the Main Jury, including the Golden Imagination Award for Best Film, the Golden Performance Awards for Best Actor and Best Actress, as well as two Special Jury Awards. In addition, the Youth Jury will present its award for Best Film, while the regional Golden Visualization Award for Best Cinematography, presented in cooperation with Cineplanet Rental, will be decided by a professional industry jury.

In addition to the free main film program, featuring 26 productions from around the world, visitors to Bašta Fest can also look forward to a diverse educational program, as well as a rich accompanying music program.
